I haven’t done a contest in a little while, so I thought I’d kick this one off with a good one. This is one of the all time classic beginner guitar books. Youll learn chords, scales, how to read music and much more. If you’re just getting started on guitar, you need to have this book in your library! Enter to win below, and I’ll be announcing a winner this Sunday!
Six String Sunday (March 21st, 2021)
Happy Sunday! Before we get started here, I wanted to look back at last week’s email, and add a new story or two. I got some really good help from our Discord chat and picked up the tools to file my frets on a Charvel DK24 that’s been my main guitar for some time now. The biggest takeaway from this whole experience is that you shouldn’t be afraid to get your own work done on the guitars you own.
Robben Ford Joins Daniel Donato on the Lost Highway Podcast
Daniel Donato is one of the most exciting blues and country guitarists out there. Daniel recently had a legend of guitar, Robben Ford, on his Lost Highway podcast. Not only has Ford played with people like Miles Davis and George Harrison, but he also produced Donato's first solo album, "A Young Man's Country". Check out the full episode below.
The New Fender Acoustasonic Jazzmaster
Fender has shipped a new guitar in its Acoustasonic line. This time the combo is an acoustic mixed with a Jazzmaster. So many people have been doing reviews of this guitar, but I thought I'd share this one from Mary Spender. The guitar's mode knob allows for such a wide range of acoustic and electric tones, and the neck and body shape is perfect for players who'd like more of an electric feel.
I got to play the Tele version of the Acoustasonic and it played smoothly, and was lightweight. Through a Fishman acoustic amp it sounded really good. I feel like this is what the Line 6 Variax Acoustics could have been, but done in a way better way. Check out Mary's full review below.
Six String Sunday (March 14th, 2021)
I’ve been tearing through Austin Kleon’s books again - this time in audiobook format. One statement really struck a chord with me from his book Show Your Work. Most baseball pitchers are secretive about how and why they throw their pitches, but then you have a guy like R.A. Dickey and the knuckleball.
Steve Vai single-handedly premieres "Knappsack"
Vai recently brought back his Alien Guitar Secrets series of videos to talk about hand health, an important topic for every guitarist. Steve recently had to have hand surgery after injuring himself, but thankfully for us, couldn't stay away from guitar for too long.
In the video below, Vai uses only his fretting hand to premiere the new song he made, "Knappsack". Vai never ceases to amaze me!
Paul Gilbert debuts new song "Argument About Pie"
Paul Gilbert just released the first song off his upcoming album 'Werewolves of Portland'. You can check out "Argument About Pie" below!
Take a behind the scenes look at Paul Reed Smith's Private Stock guitars
If you want to see some of the most beautiful, drool-worthy guitars, take a look at the video below. PRS takes us through a behind the scenes look at their Private Stock guitars. This is such a well produced video, and it has me itching to visit the factory at some point.
